What If the Key to Better Schools Isn’t What You Think?
When we imagine what makes a great school, we often picture inspiring teachers, supportive families, and well-stocked classrooms. And while those are essential, there's a powerful force behind the scenes shaping every student’s experience: school boards.
School boards decide how money is spent.
What gets taught.
How schools respond to challenges.
And ultimately—what kind of education our kids receive.
Here’s the thing: you get to choose who sits on those boards.
On May 13, Delaware voters will head to the polls to elect new school board members across the state. These elections might not get the same attention as presidential races—but they matter immensely. In fact, school board elections are often decided by just a handful of votes.
And with Delaware’s education system ranked 45th in the nation, and fewer than 50% of students on grade level, we can’t afford to sit this one out. Our students deserve better—and that starts with electing leaders who will focus on outcomes and make bold decisions in the best interest of kids.
At First State Educate, we believe that informed voters build stronger school boards. That’s why we’re hosting School Board Candidate Forums—so you can hear directly from the candidates, ask questions, and decide who reflects your values and your vision for our schools.
