  • What are your top three priorities if elected to your local school board? Please provide a ranked list with a brief explanation for each priority.

Meeting the needs of each student, which would begin with safety, growth within student achievement, as well as having a vision for the ability to have buildings to hold the number of students from our surrounding communities. As it relates to rankings of the above, if our schools are safe, we are on the right track for effective and holistic learning. Also, we should look to improving test scores that will ultimately allow our students to realize the American dream, as it relates to becoming a contributing citizen within our society. I strongly believe that the aforementioned can be accomplished by providing mentors and tutors, along with making sure that each student has an adult to guide them. Lastly, we must be able to fund the total aspects of educating our students, which will mean that we will ultimately need to gain additional funding through referendums, taxes, state, federal, and local government, as well as the possible help from our Sussex County Council.

  • If elected, how will you engage families and the community in district decision-makingand student succes?

If elected, I would engage families and communities by way of promoting, mentoring, tutoring, and having families and communities come together to gain a better understanding for educating of their children. Parents must understand that they should be an integral part of their child's education and that each child must have an adult supporter. Also, at Cape Henlopen, we have a community liaison group that meets monthly to work with finding best practices for educating our students.

  • What are the most pressing challenges currently facing your school district, and how would you approach addressing them?

The most pressing challenges facing the Cape Henlopen School district are as follows: the ongoing effort to meet the needs of each student, further develop the structure of our multi-tier program. Also, we need universal Pre-K, which will need to be a focus of the new governor and his secretary of education. We need to grow the mentoring and tutoring help for students by way of community volunteering. Also, I believe that every student needs an adult supporter. Growth has become a real challenge in Sussex County especially in the areas of the Cape Henlopen School District. Currently, we must not only find ways for additional funding (federal, state, and local governments, taxes), but also, we must be visionary about what the student growth will look like in the coming years and in the past we have been able to call upon and receive projected data, supplied to us by the University of Delaware.

  • “I believe that I am uniquely qualified to serve on my local school board as I have effectively worked in the field of education for almost 50 years beginning in elementary with stints in high school and higher education as well.”

  • What are your top three priorities if elected to your local school board? Please provide a ranked list with a brief explanation for each priority.

Prioritize the well being of students in our schools- we have a mental health crisis among our youth and I want to make sure that resources are available for staff and our students. Equality and Inclusion- advocate for policies that ensure all students receive the support they deserve so that they can be successful in and out of the classroom. Teacher & staff support- I am committed to enhancing educational resources

  • If elected, how will you engage families and the community in district decision-makingand student succes?

Ensure information is easy to access for families and community members in both digital and printed formats. Be consistently available for conversation and questions to our community and encourage other board members to do the same. If certain communities struggle to make it to board meetings, then it is important to go to them smaller more localized meetings.

  • What are the most pressing challenges currently facing your school district, and how would you approach addressing them?

Student Achievement gaps, I would support implementing interventions like tutoring, expanded access to technology, and increased funding for resources for our teachers Mental health & student well being, I would support increasing access to school mental health counselors, and promote a school culture that prioritizes mental health support.

  • “My experience as a mom, advocate and community member. I have worked with our students in all age groups, and have always advocated for what is best.”

  • What are your top three priorities if elected to your local school board? Please provide a ranked list with a brief explanation for each priority.

    My priorities include:

-Optimizing technology for safe access and effective remote learning, maintaining online lessons that

    match in-person teaching

    -Preventing bullying on various platforms

-Challenging students to excel in state tests and advanced classes

-Safeguarding the mental wellness of students and teachers with needed resources.

  • If elected, how will you engage families and the community in district decision-makingand student succes?

I believe that at the end of each marking period, surveys/forums/town halls, etc. should occur for parents, teachers, administrators, school board members and community groups to convene to discuss topics and evaluate set checkpoints. This should be done both in person and electronically and include anonymity for those who prefer it. Parent-teacher conferences are often on an “as-needed basis", however, regular check-ins for both positive and negative feedback are essential to foster communication and collaboration.

Furthermore, prompt access to School Board meetings/minutes and community discussions will facilitate a greater sense of inclusion among the community.

  • What are the most pressing challenges currently facing your school district, and how would you approach addressing them?

    1. Funding/Community growth

-No unfunded mandates from the state

    -Impact fees from local developers

-More unit funding from the state (ex 80% as is in New Castle County vs. 60% Sussex)

    2. Academic performance

-Greater/more indivudualized supports for our diverse student/community population

    -Greater language support

-Create a welcoming and inclusive environment

    -Maintain proper student/teacher ratios

-Enhanced community, teacher, student, family collaboration

    -Assistive technology

    -Necessary modifications and accommodations

    -Teacher training

-Enhancing positive behavioral interventions and supports

    3. Physical, emotional and cyber safety

-Safeguarding the mental wellness of both students and teachers through adequate counseling,

educational and training resources- to be inclusive of everyone in our dynamic district.

  • “I am very involved with my young children both inside and outside of school. I have been a parent of the district for 6 years with 12 more to go. I have a unique vantage point in the fact that we live and breathe Cape’s policies, curriculum and administration on a daily basis. My three boys actively participate in and test every policy and directive implemented. Furthermore, they are direct recipients of the district's and state’s tax dollars, grants, etc., and I am able to see, in real time, how the implemented programs are working. I’m also able to witness how the rapidly changing educational and political climate is affecting their education. Additionally, I am able to see the pros, cons, and loopholes of policies that, while look incredible on paper, don’t always hold water at home or in practice. I want to use this unique knowledge and daily interaction with the district to enhance an already excelling district and set not only my children, but every child in the district, up for the greatest success possible. Professionally, I lead a small team of 3 plus as well as have two partners and 10 additional staff that, while don’t report directly to me, play a pivotal role in my success. Through my guidance, my openness to group collaboration, feedback, delegation, I have seen great success in my business in the past 4 years. This isn’t due to the skill I possess alone, but the team that I have built and coached. My team is trained to provide the kind of customer service and attention to detail that I model and insist upon. They can anticipate my needs and I, theirs. I have very high expectations of them and I don’t expect anything of them that I wouldn’t do myself-whether it’s long hours, extra hours, coming in early, staying late, weekends, etc. Whatever needs to be done, we do, and I’m right along side of them. I am also engaged in many local philanthropies and have a host of current and past service work including: Epworth soup kitchen, Pennsylvania Alliance for Labor Support, Rehoboth Art League, The Breast Center at Thomas Jefferson, Seaside Jewish Community, community HOA, school volunteer and I serve as a nurse at the summer camp my boys attend in the Poconos. I am also the leader of a local symposium aimed at uniting my professional community.”

  • What are your top three priorities if elected to your local school board? Please providea ranked list with a brief explanation for each priority.

As Vice President of the Seaford School District Board of Education, my top three priorities are: Enhancing Student Academic Achievement I am committed to implementing strategies that improve student performance across all grade levels. This includes supporting evidence-based instructional methods, integrating technology effectively into the classroom, and providing targeted interventions for students who need additional support. By focusing on these areas, we can ensure that every student has the opportunity to succeed academically and be well-prepared for future endeavors. Strengthening Community and Parental Engagement Building strong partnerships between the schools, parents, and the broader community is essential for student success. I aim to increase transparency and communication by hosting regular forums and workshops that encourage parental involvement and feedback. By fostering a collaborative environment, we can create a supportive network that enhances the educational experience for all students. Promoting Equity and Inclusion Ensuring that all students, regardless of their background, have access to quality education is a fundamental priority. I advocate for policies that address disparities and promote inclusivity within our schools. This involves implementing culturally responsive teaching practices, providing resources for underserved communities, and creating an environment where diversity is celebrated, and every student feels valued and supported. By focusing on these priorities, I aim to contribute to the continuous improvement and excellence of the Seaford School District.

  • If elected, how will you engage families and the community in district decision-making and student success?

I am truly committed to actively engaging families and the community in district decision-making and promoting student success. To achieve this, I propose the following strategies: Establish Regular Community Forums I will advocate for the organization of regular community forums where parents, students, and community members can voice their opinions, ask questions, and provide feedback on district policies and initiatives. These forums will serve as a platform for open dialogue, ensuring that the community's perspectives are considered in decision-making processes. Strengthen Partnerships with Local Organizations Collaborating with local businesses, nonprofits, and community organizations can provide additional resources and support for our schools. By fostering these partnerships, we can create mentorship programs, internships, and extracurricular activities that enhance student learning and engagement. Enhance Communication Channels Continue to improve communication between the district and families is essential. I propose the development of a comprehensive communication plan that includes regular newsletters, an updated district website, and active social media engagement. This approach will ensure that families are informed about district initiatives, events, and opportunities for involvement.

  • What are the most pressing challenges currently facing your school district, and how would you approach addressing them?

One of the most significant issues facing our district is likely related to student and staff mental health and well-being. This challenge is seen in many district. Factors like social pressures, academic expectations, benchmarks, and post pandemic adjustments have heightened anxiety, depression, and other mental health concerns.

  • “Deep Roots in the Seaford Community: I was born and raised in Seaford, and I understand firsthand the values, challenges, and aspirations of this community. My connection to our students and families is personal, not just professional. This gives me a grounded perspective and a sincere passion for advocating for every child in our district. Educational and Leadership Expertise: As an educator and leader, I have extensive experience in developing policies and programs that prioritize student achievement, teacher support, and family engagement. My academic background and doctoral work have equipped me with the tools to approach complex challenges with strategic thinking, data-driven solutions, and a commitment to equity. Proven Record of Service and Advocacy: I have actively served in various leadership roles, including as Vice President of the Seaford School Board. In these roles, I’ve worked collaboratively with stakeholders to advance district priorities, promote fiscal responsibility, and strengthen community partnerships. I’ve also championed initiatives focused on diversity, inclusion, and student well-being. Bridge Between Schools and Community: My unique ability to connect with students, educators, families, and local organizations allows me to be a strong, authentic voice for Seaford. I understand the importance of creating policies that are not only effective in schools but also reflective of our community’s values and needs. In every decision I make, I lead with integrity, transparency, and a deep belief in the potential of every student in Seaford. That’s what makes me uniquely qualified to serve.”

  • What are your top three priorities if elected to your local school board? Please providea ranked list with a brief explanation for each priority.

    1. Because I am new to the organization, learn as much as I can about the Vision of the Woodbridge

      District.

    2. District and Community involvement.

    3. Come up with fresh ways to attract students to the

      Woodbridge District.

  • If elected, how will you engage families and the community in district decision-making and student success?

Encourage ways to attract parent/student involvement with the Child's direct Educator.

  • What are the most pressing challenges currently facing your school district, and how would you approach addressing them?

I believe there are budgetary needs that have to be addressed by seeking available grants and community resources to help fill in the schools financial gaps. I also believe we need to address the chronic absence of students in our district. I believe through teaming up with teachers, parents, resource officers and any other means necessary to reach our absent students is important.

  • “I am not sure. I believe the best qualification is having a heart for the Woodbridge School District. Everything else is secondary. I am a proud alumni of the school system. I graduated in 1984 and my children also attended Woodbridge. When I went to school it had a family atmosphere and I would love to see our kids experience that feel.”

  • What are your top three priorities if elected to your local school board? Please providea ranked list with a brief explanation for each priority.

Strengthen family and community engagement by building parent partnerships, expanding outreach programs, and promoting mentorship opportunities. Advocate for holistic student support by increasing mental health and wellness services for students and teachers, trauma informed practices, and positive behavioral programs. Finally, enhance academic support systems by encouraging after school and enrichment programs, set up early intervention techniques, and create flexible learning options.

  • If elected, how will you engage families and the community in district decision-making and student success?

Through my non profit work, i have seen great responses from communities when you are visible in the community. One strategy to engage with families is to start hosting more community events at the individual schools and having faculty there to engage with the community. When parents know who is teaching their children they are more likely to show an interest in how the student is performing in that classroom.

  • What are the most pressing challenges currently facing your school district, and how would you approach addressing them?

  • What are your top three priorities if elected to your local school board? Please provide a ranked list with a brief explanation for each priority.

    1. Increase our students reading and math scores.

    2. Continue to support the safety measures for our students and staff.

    3. School building improvements/renovations.

  • If elected, how will you engage families and the community in district decision-making and student success?

    1. When introducing and implementing new policies, families need to be provided the opportunity to provide feedback on such policies via home surveys and public forums.

    2. It is important to provide district wide family events, where the schools are able to disseminate information to our district families about curriculum, school programs, and policies.

  • What are the most pressing challenges currently facing your school district, and how would you approach addressing them?

    1. Many of our students are not reading at grade level. In addition to providing remediation for our struggling students at the elementary level, we must also remediate at the secondary level. In my opinion we are still feeling the effects of loss learning from Covid, especially at the secondary level. At the secondary level the focus is mainly on literacy when it comes to reading. However I believe that we need to also focus on reading strategies. Identifying our lowest reading level students and creatively provide remediation to increase their level of reading, I believe will not only increase their academic achievements, but also our graduation rates.

    2. Cell phones have presented many challenges in our schools, specially in our middle and high schools. They distract our students and are often the root of fights and bullying. This year Woodbridge Middle School has introduced, with the backing of parents, the use of cell phone pouches. At the beginning of the student's day, cell phones are put in pouches only to be retrieved at the end of the day. According to the statistics presented at a recent board meeting, this policy has resulted in lower behavioral issues and fights within the school. I am hoping that this will also translate into better academic performance at the end of the year. It is also my hope to extend this policy to the 9th grade level next year. Cell phones and social media are greater challenges at high school. I would propose to continue with the use of cell-pouches in 9th grade, since they are already used to the idea from middle school. Thus providing a smoother transition to the high school with less distractions and stress both inside and outside the classroom.

    3. Absenteeism at the secondary has been a challenge, especially after Covid. Although there has been improvement it still remains a problem. In my opinion low academic performance may be a contributing factor. Students give up. By addressing poor academic achievement via remediation in reading and math, early communication with family members about excessive unexcused absences and alternative educational programs we can greatly reduce this problem.

  • “I am a 26 year recently retired school teacher. Of those 26 years I taught 22 years in the Woodbridge School District. I have also been a resident of the district since 1999. Throughout those years my family and I have been active participants in our community. Our children are Woodbridge graduates and my husband coached for our town and for Woodbridge High School. As a result I am very familiar with our community's educational needs, growing demographics and challenges.”
