Get the Buzz on the 2025 Delaware Spelling Bee Competition

L-i-t-e-r-a-c-y. We’re delighted to introduce the 2025 Delaware Spelling Bee Competition, which promotes literacy in Delaware’s elementary and middle school students. After the success of our first spelling bee in February 2024, we’re busy planning the next.

This year, we are hosting a competition for each Delaware county: New Castle County in October, Kent in November, and Sussex in December. Four county champions will receive prizes, and the top 15 spellers from each county will advance to the statewide competition in May 2025. The Spelling Bee provides an opportunity for students, families and educators to celebrate student excellence.

We invite students to participate, educators to apply to serve as their county’s spelling bee coach and community members to apply for the role of County Lead. Students who participate in spelling bees strengthen their vocabulary skills and gain confidence from public speaking. Interested students can register here

Educators serving as County Spelling Bee Coach can inspire a love of language in their students. They will receive a stipend for their contributions. Qualified educators can apply here. To learn more about the role, register for an information session for educators at 11 a.m. June 25.

Community members who want to support the spelling bee by serving as a County Lead can apply here. Individuals in this role will have a variety of responsibilities and will receive a stipend.

On the national level, congratulations to Bruhat Soma, who won the Scripps National Spelling Bee in May. Bruhat spelled 29 of 30 words correctly in Scripps’ second-ever spell-off. What an inspiration for students soon to take part in the Delaware Spelling Bee. We look forward to an exciting season.
